Multiple Water Rescues

January 10, 2024

As a result of the recent rainstorm, the Pennridge area did experience flooding in low-lying areas near local waterways. On Tuesday, January 9th, SFD volunteers started their evening of service with two calls for wires down. One call was in West Rockhill Township, the other was in East Rockhill Township. Both incidents were related to trees falling on wires.

We were able to hold our monthly business meeting uninterrupted. Soon after, Special Service 27 was alerted to Blooming Glen Road in Perkasie Fire Company’s area of East Rockhill Township for the report of a motorist stranded in the water near Mood’s Covered Bridge. The crew was able to make contact with the driver and successfully transfer them to our vehicle and away from the flood waters.

While clearing that scene, radio traffic was overheard for another vehicle in flood waters on Irish Meetinghouse Road in the Dublin area. Chief 23 requested our truck respond to assist. Shortly after arriving on scene, the driver was removed from their vehicle. Special Service 27 returned back toward the Sellersville area.

While checking on vehicles in the area of Lenape Park, another call was dispatched for Callowhill Street near Dorchester Lane in Perkasie. Special Service 27 made contact with the vehicle in the water and the crew was able to assist the driver and get them to higher ground.

When finished with rescues throughout the area, it was time to evacuate residents on North Main Street in houses and apartments near the Perkiomen Creek. Crews continued to monitor the flood levels before allowing residents to return.

The incidents from Tuesday night/Wednesday morning are a great reminder that drivers should never go around barricades or drive through swift moving water. TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!
